About Orthopaedics New England

New England's Foremost Hip and Knee Surgeons

Located in Middlebury, New Milford, and Farmington, Connecticut, Orthopaedics New England is internationally recognized for pioneering work in adult joint reconstruction. Our board-certified orthopedic surgeons, Dr. John Keggi and Dr. Robert Kennon, both trained at Yale University School of Medicine and are actively involved in research, publications, and presentations at national conferences and symposia.

Our Founder

Dr. Kristaps Keggi established the practice in the early 1970s and also founded the Keggi Orthopaedic Foundation in 1989, a nonprofit research and educational organization that has been responsible for numerous publications, research projects, and the education of hundreds of orthopedic residents and visiting fellows from around the world. He was the first to develop, publish, and use the modified anterior approach for hip replacement. Dr. Keggi left the practice in 2009 at the age of 75. He was an early advocate and pioneer of the direct approach for hip replacement.

World-Renowned Expertise

Dr. John Keggi, nephew of Dr. Kristaps Keggi, joined Orthopaedics New England in 1994. Dr. Kennon joined him in 2005 following a fellowship with Keggi Orthopaedic Foundation.

The surgeons at Orthopaedics New England are world-renowned. Dr. Keggi has traveled to France, Spain, and Australia and elsewhere to teach the anterior approach, while Dr. Kennon wrote and published a book, Hip and Knee Surgery: A Patient’s Guide to Hip Replacement, Hip Resurfacing, Knee Replacement, and Knee Arthroscopy.

Dr. Keggi and Dr. Kennon provide compassionate, understanding, and genuine patient-centered care. Being educators, they spend time with patients to explain their X-ray, diagnosis, surgical procedure, and anticipated recovery plan. The doctors provide post-operative and ongoing care both in person and through our physician assistants. Patients come from distant cities, states, and even countries throughout the U.S. and from overseas to receive orthopedic care from Drs. Keggi and Kennon.

CJRI

Drs. Keggi and Kennon perform hip and knee joint replacements exclusively at the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute (CJRI), a state-of-the-art facility located on the main campus of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

CJRI features eight operating rooms dedicated to joint replacement surgery. They are among the 10 busiest joint replacement centers in the country, sometimes performing more than 100 joint replacements in a week, with hundreds of dedicated staff made up of orthopaedic nurses, operating room staff, physical therapists, anesthesia specialists, physician assistants, and orthopaedic surgeons. CJRI caters exclusively to joint replacement patients and occupies three floors of its new building. Each room is spacious and private, with on-floor physical therapy and a rehabilitation gym, along with a dedicated orthopedic staff to speed your recovery.

If you have hip or knee pain and would like to meet with one of our orthopaedic surgeons, call our office today at (203) 598-0700 or use our online form to request an appointment. When it comes to orthopedic surgery in Connecticut, we know you have choices; that’s why we consider it an honor and a privilege to care for you.
